Leeds interested in signing £10m star who Pep Guardiola called ‘brilliant’ last season
Leeds United will certainly need to strengthen Daniel Farke’s squad in order to fight for survival in the Premier League.
Leeds won the Championship with 100 points scoring 95 goals along the way, a season that deserves to be celebrated.
But Farke’s side will be subject to much tougher defensive scrutiny in the top flight, stressing the need for the 49ers to recruit.
After failing to keep Norwich City in the Premier League previously, Farke might have recognised the need to recruit proven top flight experience and quality this summer.
And when it comes to upgrades, Leeds do desperately need to address their goalkeeping situation following Illan Meslier losing his number one spot towards the end of last campaign.
Leeds want to sign Nick Pope from Newcastle
That being said, Leeds are now targeting a move for Newcastle United’s Nick Pope according to .
Karl Darlow picked up the gloves towards the end of Leeds’ promotion campaign, but it’s clearly a position in which Farke can strengthen.

Darlow (52 games), Meslier (107 games) both have solid experience in the Premier League, but Leeds fans would surely prefer to see a new number one come in.
And therefore, Farke’s side are targeting Pope from Newcastle, should the Magpies chase a deal for Burnley’s James Trafford this summer.
Pope is an excellent shot-stopper and he would be a huge upgrade on Meslier in terms of how he dominates his box.
However, there seemingly are doubts at St James’ Park regarding his distribution — he’s not exceptional with the ball at his feet.
But in terms of Leeds’ immediate demands, the keeper would definitely be someone who could play a key role in their hopes of Premier League survival.
Pep Guardiola praised Nick Pope last season
If any evidence was needed in regards to Pope’s quality, Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola called the goalkeeper ‘brilliant’ last season.
Man City drew 1-1 at St James’ Park last September and Guardiola was left lamenting a superb goalkeeping display.
Speaking to , Guardiola said: “Pope was brilliant in two or three saves, but yeah, we will take the point.”
Of course, Leeds fans would be very happy were Pope to head to Elland Road with similar results next season.
And in terms of how much Leeds have to spend this summer, finance expert Kieran Maguire recently commented on the club’s situation to .
Fellow promoted side Sunderland have a lot of money to spend, but in terms of Leeds’ finances, Maguire said: “They will have to box clever in terms of recruitment. Spending £100m is just about feasible.”
