Leeds United have a busy summer on the transfer front as they look to turn their squad into a unit capable of surviving in the Premier League.

Emi Buendia the ‘most likely’ option for Leeds United at No. 10

TBR Football chief correspondent Graeme Bailey can confirm that Leeds have held talks over a possible deal for Aston Villa playmaker Emiliano Buendia.

The Whites have also made enquiries about Galatasaray ace Gabriel Sara and Sheffield United’s Gustavo Hamer, as they are determined to get themselves a new No. 10.

Bailey exclusively told TBR Football about Buendia: “I am told he is open to the Leeds move, Farke knows him and he trusts Farke.

“Leeds want this No. 10 and they have options. They really like Hamer too and have done work on Sara – but at this point I think Buendia is the most likely.”

What Daniel Farke and Xabi Alonso have said about Emi Buendia

Buendia made 121 appearances under Farke at Norwich City, registering 24 goals and 41 assists in all competitions.

When Norwich sold Buendia to Aston Villa for £33million, Farke sang his praises in two Championship title-winning campaigns and in the Premier League.

“A fantastic player but there are times when you also have to accept the big wish of the player to have this type of move,” he said, as per .

“You cannot praise Emi enough. That is for sure.

“Twice a title winner at Championship level and he played a key role in the best season in Norwich’s history, with so many goals and assists.

“But also his workload and pressing was outstanding last season.”

Leeds were keen on signing Buendia a year ago, but Villa didn’t want to let him go and the player didn’t fancy returning to the Championship.

When asked about Buendia, Farke told  in January 2025: “I don’t speak about any other player under contract at another club.

“Obviously, I’ve worked with him for many years, I really rate him. I don’t comment on players on other clubs.”

Now mostly surplus to requirements at Villa, Buendia sealed a loan move to Bayer Leverkusen in January, where he made 14 appearances and registered two goals.

“He was always ready to play,” former Leverkusen manager Xabi Alonso said in April, as per the .

“Approaches every training session with a great attitude, and we need that good impact from all the players.”
