Leeds have Heckingbottom to thank for keeping Hernandez at the club

Paul Heckingbottom’s time at Leeds United was disappointing and he is not fondly remembered by the Elland Road faithful.

After leaving Barnsley for Leeds, he failed to inspire a late surge for promotion and dragged Leeds into the bottom half.

But there is one part of his legacy that has had a positive impact on Leeds’ success this season.

While Heckingbottom was in charge, Leeds star Pablo Hernandez signed a new contract with the club.

The 33-year-old continues to defy his age and is leading Leeds’ charge to promotion.

Leeds fans might not give glowing reports of Heckingbottom’s tenure at Elland Road.

But his decision to keep Hernandez at the club must be commended as it has helped to set Leeds up for a promotion bid this season.
