Leeds fans want Jamie Shackleton to get his chance in the team

With Leeds United losing talisman Kalvin Phillips for a sustained period of time, they now need to work out a way to replace him in their starting XI.

The Whites confirmed () that the midfielder could miss up to six weeks with a shoulder injury after picking up the problem in Monday’s 1-0 Premier League defeat to Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Marcelo Bielsa has since claimed () in an interview that there is no definite timescale on Phillips’ return, stating it could be less or more than six weeks.

Phillips is going to leave a major gap in the deep-lying midfielder role in front of the defence and that’s got some fans speculation about how they could replace him.

Versatile players such as Pascal Struijk or Stuart Dallas could push forward from defence to the midfield area, but another name has been suggested.

A selection of Leeds supporters on social media believe that 21-year-old Jamie Shackleton is a player that deserves more game-time following the club’s injury blow.

The English midfielder is a talent to come through the academy at Thorp Arch and is a member of the senior squad, albeit his minutes have been limited so far this season.

He is a 21-year-old that has been in the matchday squad for the opening five league games of the campaign, but his only appearance came with a late cameo against Liverpool.

The all-action central midfielder has played 50 senior games for Leeds and has the energy to fit Bielsa’s system, but he’s still waiting for his first Premier League start.
