Leeds fans want 21-year-old to start in Premier League against Tottenham

Leeds United host Tottenham on Saturday afternoon in the Premier League – and some of the club’s fans on Twitter want youngster Ian Poveda to start.

The Whites sit 11th in the league table as it stands after a superb return to the top flight, and the pressure is off them for the final four games of the season as they try to finish as high as possible.

Meanwhile, today’s visitors Spurs are sixth in the division standings, and are still in the fight for Champions League football.

The north London club are five points adrift of fourth-placed Chelsea, so they need to leave Elland Road with a win.

Leeds would surely love a response after a 2-0 defeat to Brighton in their last match but they’ve shown they can more than mix it with the best teams. They took five points from games against Manchester City, Liverpool and Manchester United during April.

Spurs, who have interim manager Ryan Mason in charge, are on a two-game winning streak right now.

A selection of Leeds supporters on social media have asked manager Marcelo Bielsa ahead of today’s game to give Poveda a start.

The 21-year-old winger has been used as a substitute this season, showing some impressive bits of skill and pace whenever given the chance. However, the speedster is yet to start in the Premier League.

With Bielsa tight-lipped over Raphinha’s fitness ahead of Spurs, and Helder Costa being out injured for the rest of the season, the right-winger position will need filling.

Here are some Leeds fans crying out for Poveda to play against Spurs:
