Leeds fans unimpressed with captain Liam Cooper despite comeback win over Millwall
Leeds United produced a stunning comeback win to beat Millwall at Elland Road on Tuesday night after going down 2-0 at half-time – and supporters have criticised captain Liam Cooper on Twitter.
An unmarked Sam Hutchison gave Millwall the lead after just four minutes from a corner, before a controversial penalty saw Jed Wallace squeeze a penalty past Kiko Casilla. Prior to the foul, replays showed the ball went out of play.
Referee Darren England was heavily jeered throughout the match by Leeds supporters, and also drew criticism from Whites owner Andrea Radrizzani during the match – claiming his officiating was “not acceptable for a professional league.”
Speechless 😶…in two years I have seen a lot but the level shown tonight is not acceptable for a professional league. Time to improve, use technology support and prepare professionals fit to work at the top level of football
— Andrea Radrizzani (@andrearadri)
The second half, though, was a different story. Patrick Bamford got the ball rolling with a tap-in on 48 minutes, after Jack Harrison’s effort was well saved. Pablo Hernandez’s effort from the edge of the area deflected in.
Then, Bamford made himself the hero with an excellent diving header to put Leeds ahead. Matuesz Klich should have killed the game but failed to do so when given the chance from eight yards out – when it was perhaps easier to score.
Cooper, though, was hardly impressive throughout the match as Leeds conceded again from a corner and looked shaky at the back throughout. Many Whites fans reacted to his display, criticising the captain who joined for £500,000 () in 2014.
Not sure about Liam Cooper this evening. Looked mostly ok but some sloppy errors as well which could have cost dear.

Tonight we celebrate a great comeback win. But tomorrow we have to have a serious discussion about Liam Cooper being the captain of this team. Up the whites

Liam Cooper has been atrocious. Seems to be camouflaged when we play well. Wears hi vis when we are under pressure

Liam Cooper is simply not good enough
