Leeds fans react to Aleksandar Mitrovic’s display in Whites defeat
Leeds United may be eight points clear of the chasing pack in the Championship, but it is hardly surprising that many of the supporters are imploring the board to make the kind of signing who can get somewhere near replicating the impact that Aleksandar Mitrovic made when he initially joined Fulham on loan in January 2018.
Mitrovic scored 12 goals in 20 league games for the Cottagers. His form helped Fulham seal promotion through the play-offs on that occasion.
And he is impressing in the Championship once again this season. He tops the division’s scoring charts with 17 goals already. And the latest came in Saturday’s 2-1 win against Marcelo Bielsa’s men.
Mitrovic’s goal was somewhat memorable for the wrong reasons – he scored from the penalty spot after an incredibly controversial decision from the referee – but his overall performance has received a lot of praise from the Leeds fans on social media.
Several have suggested that the Serbia international is the best player in the Championship by some distance. It has been described as a joke that he is playing in the second tier.
And it is suggested that if Leeds could take any player in the division, it would be Mitrovic. That is arguably quite telling given that Patrick Bamford has been excellent this season and has now scored 10 league goals.
