Leeds fans react recognise Bielsa blueprint in Huddersfield goal against Derby
Huddersfield Town earned a 1-0 win over struggling Derby County on Tuesday night thanks to Juninho Bacuna’s second-half winner at the John Smith’s Stadium – and Leeds fans recognise Marcelo Bielsa’s blue print in Carlos Corberan’s side.
Corberan took over at Huddersfield in the summer after managing Leeds United’s Under-23 side, and working as Bielsa’s assistant – helping the Whites gain promotion to the Premier League last season, ending a 16-year with for top-flight football.
Instead of continuing to work under Bielsa, Corberan chose to enter the world of management with local Leeds rivals Huddersfield and he has started well since arriving as Terriers boss. They have won three of six, picking up 10 points.
On Tuesday night, Huddersfield hosted Derby and the only goal of the game came in the form of Bacuna’s excellent finish on 53 minutes – after a beautiful passage of play that saw Harry Toffolo pull the ball back for Bacuna, after starting from a goal kick.

Since Corberan took over at Huddersfield, it has been clear that the Spaniard’s apprenticeship under Bielsa has had a lasting impression. Indeed, Huddersfield’s goal against Derby saw the Terriers get players forward very quickly.
The transitional style of play that saw Huddersfield’s attackers pin Derby back worked to perfection, preventing the Rams defenders from putting a tackle in. Leeds fans reacted to Huddersfield’s winner, and recognised Bielsa’s blueprint.

So Bielsa's assistants all get management jobs at other clubs, then play football like this. Then their assistants get management jobs and so on.
Seriously Bielsa is God, spreading his divine football teaching to the masses.— SimonCunniffeFineArt (@SimonCunniffe)
You're welcome Huddersfield
