Leeds fans react on Twitter to Spurs loanee Jack Clarke’s U23 display

A number of Leeds fans have taken to Twitter to comment Jack Clarke’s performance after the Tottenham Hotspur loanee was involved in the Whites’s latest under-23 game on Monday.

Clarke has endured a tough start to the season. He has not played a minute of Championship football this term, and rarely been included in the matchday squad with Leeds having six loanees on their books.

He was handed a lifeline at the weekend. Marcelo Bielsa dropped Illan Meslier from the bench and promoted Clarke for the trip to Charlton Athletic. He did not feature at the Valley, but the Spurs man may have perhaps been given addition motivation ahead of Monday’s clash with Crewe.

However, if he was even more determined to make an impact, it, unfortunately, did not show in his performance as Leeds were beaten 2-1.

Clarke only played the first 45 minutes, and it proved to be a struggle for the winger. He did not look particularly dangerous, and his cause will not have been helped by the improved performance Leeds produced in the second-half.

Clarke’s woes continue

For some, his substitution at half-time made sense with Leeds’s first-team hosting West Brom at Elland Road on Tuesday. However, others have suggested that he needed to be taken off anyway.

The Tottenham man’s performance has been strongly criticised. There is real concern that Clarke is not the same player that burst into the senior side last season.

He could not rediscover that form after collapsing at Middlesbrough, and some believe that he is still nothing like the player that would have attracted Mauricio Pochettino’s attention in the first place.
