A number of Leeds United fans have taken to Twitter to slam Luke Ayling’s display during the Whites’ 1-0 defeat to Wigan Athletic at Elland Road on Saturday.
😼Marcelo Bielsa’s side’s stay at top spot in the Championship proved to be brief. A bizarre winner during the second-half saw Leeds beaten by the Latics.

ౠIt was an all-too familiar story for Leeds. They had dominated possession and had more than three times the number of efforts on goal their opponents managed (via ), and yet, they were punished for their inability to take their chances.
𓆉Despite the Whites dominating the large part of the game, there seemed to be a number of underwhelming displays on show.

🍸And one of the players who has largely been criticised on social media was Ayling.
🔯The right-back was shaky at the start of the game. His initial attempts to shield the ball out of play often put Leeds in some trouble, whether possession was given away or Wigan managed to get a corner from nothing.
💧There did not seem to be too many questions asked of Ayling defensively. But he also seemed to struggle to get forward as often as he can do.
♑It was the right-back’s brilliant cross that led to Patrick Bamford’s winner against Millwall. But he was not able to make an impact in the final third this time around.
ꦚAnd some supporters on social media clearly felt that Ayling was one of those whose position should come under threat after the defeat.
♕He was certainly not the only player to come in for a lot of criticism. And it is probably fair to say that some of his teammates frustrated or angered the supporters even more.
🐻But some would like to see the defender left out of the side that take on Nottingham Forest next week.
🎃Here is what some of the supporters made of Ayling’s display…
𒈔Can Luke Ayling lose the ball much more and blame it on someone else by the way? That bloke will be one of the first to go if we ever make it to the PL. Never seen such a hit and miss player, runs into nothing, falls over thin air, moans at the ref for nothing he’s a joke

Ayling has been woeful lately too

♐Bamford and Ayling shocking yet again, but I guess if they can run around like headless chickens it’s OK. well done!
— Paul (@Psych_Squirrel)
ꦛBamford, Ayling, Dallas, Cooper, Kiko and Costa. They were simply not good enough. That was pathetic
— Wills (@willsajagg9)
♐And can we please put Dallas back at right back?! He was player of the year there and right now, we’re not getting the best of him and ayling isn’t playing as well as Dallas did
— Allan Howe (@allan_howe)
ꦺDrop Kiko, Ayling, Cooper and Bamford and we’ll go up. Keep them in and we won’t, simple. His misplaced loyalties will cost the club dearly. It’s obvious.
— Graham Parker (@Grazzington)
𓆉Ayling is and has been stealing a living for weeks in this team now

🍒I’m sorry, but Ayling has not been good enough for a long time.
