Leeds fans react hilariously as Pep Clotet named as new Birmingham City head coach
Birmingham City have announced that Pep Clotet is the Blues’ new head coach after impressing in a caretaker role following Garry Monk’s sacking in the summer – and Leeds fans have poked fun at the Sheffield Wednesday gaffer.
Clotet was appointed Birmingham City assistant manager in March 2018 when Monk was hired by the Blues, and has since remained at the club. He also worked under Monk at Swansea City and Leeds United.
But following Monk’s sacking at the end of the 2018-19 season, Clotet remained at Birmingham and replaced Monk as caretaker manager. After guiding Birmingham to a relatively safe 15th place after 19 league games, Clotet has been named head coach.
, confirming that Clotet is the club’s first head coach – not a manager – while also not revealing the length of the Spaniard’s contract. It is Clotet’s second spell in English management, after Oxford.

Prior to Sheffield Wednesday’s meeting with Birmingham towards the end of November – a match which ended 1-1 – Monkcame out with a bizarre rant about Clotet, claiming the new Brum boss had shown a lack of loyalty by replacing him at St. Andrews.

With Monk leaving Leeds, Clotet chose the selfless option and put Monk’s interests before his – leaving with Monk. Leeds fans reacted to the news that Clotet has become Birmingham’s head coach, and many have teased Monk following the appointment.
