Leeds fans react as Paul Robinson suggests England midfielder as potential signing

Leeds United have been urged to raid Saturday’s opponents Tottenham Hotspur and sign England midfielder Harry Winks this summer by ex-Leeds and Spurs goalkeeper Paul Robinson – and Leeds fans have responded on Twitter.

Winks, 25, could leave Tottenham this summer after falling down the pecking order since the signing of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg. Alongside the Dane, Spurs prefer to use a more-attacking midfielder in Gio Lo Celso or Tanguy Ndombele.

It has limited England star Winks to just 20 starts all season, a figure made even worse by the fact Spurs have played in the Europa League qualifying rounds, group stage and knockout games. They also got to the League Cup final.

Robinson told Stadium Astro on Saturday afternoon, having watched his two sides do battle and Leeds earning all three points against the London club with a 3-1 win, that Winks would be a good signing for the Elland Road club.

“I’d love to see Harry Winks at Leeds. He’s not been given his opportunity at Spurs, he’s fantastic. Not only can he do the Phillips role, he can play in midfield,” “Would love to see Winks at Elland Road next season.”

Leeds fans have reacted on Twitter to their former goalkeeper’s comments about Winks and while Leeds do need a midfielder – one that can play as a six or cover for Phillips – many are against the signing of the Spurs academy ace.
