Leeds fans react as Liam Cooper makes prediction about Marcelo Bielsa

Liam Cooper has predicted that Marcelo Bielsa will sign a new deal at Elland Road as the Leeds United manager remains out of contract this summer – and Leeds fans have reacted on Twitter to his comments, underlining their delight at the captain’s claim.

Bielsa, 65, has spent the last three seasons at Leeds – remaining as manager for more matches at Leeds than he has at any other club. But throughout his time as Elland Road boss, he has only ever signed a contract until the end of that current season.

There has been talk regarding his future at the club. Many Leeds fans and the club itself are desperate for him to remain in Yorkshire, given the rise of the club since he arrived in 2018. Now, it is clear the players want him to stay, too.

, Cooper said: “But I’m totally confident Marcelo will stay. No doubt at all. He loves the boys, we all want him to stay and I’m sure he will. He loves the club, he loves the city, he loves the people and he loves it here.

“It’s the longest he has been at a club, that speaks volumes,” Cooper added. “I think he can also see how far he can take us, we’ve got an amazing group of lads who he can coach and improve. As long as he sees that, he will stay for as long as he can.”

Bielsa has already stated in press conferences that he will sign a new contract if Andrea Radrizzani wants him too, but would rather do so at the end of the season. He has also stated he sees himself in Yorkshire for the remainder of his managerial career.

Leeds fans have reacted on Twitter to Cooper’s comments and many are of the belief that their captain would not make such a definitive claim should Bielsa’s future not be all but certain. Many were delighted to hear what Cooper had to say.
