Leeds fans react as Jonathan Woodgate replaced by Neil Warnock at Middlesbrough

Middlesbrough have confirmed in a statement on Tuesday morning that Jonathan Woodgate has been relieved of his duties as Boro manager and immediately replaced by Neil Warnock – and Leeds fans have responded on Twitter.

Former Leeds United, Real Madrid and England defender Woodgate was handed his first role in management at Middlesbrough after initially being a part of the coaching set-up. Boro have struggled under his guidance.

Of his 41 league and cup matches in charge, Boro have managed just nine wins. The Teesside club are teetering on the edge of the relegation zone, sitting above 22nd-placed Hull City on goal difference.

Now, Middlesbrough’s board have decided to end Woodgate’s tenure in charge despite having signed a three-year contract last summer. He has been immediately replaced by Warnock, another former Leeds man.

Middlesbrough look as though they are doomed, though. They last won a league game on New Year’s Day, since losing seven out of their 12 league games and drawing the other five. Warnock certainly has a job on his hands.

Indeed, Warnock faces a crucial return to management as Boro travel south to take on Stoke City on Saturday with both sides in a relegation battle. Leeds fans reacted to the news that Boro have swapped Woodgate for Warnock.

Some have suggested a return to Elland Road to work under Marcelo Bielsa, for Woodgate. Others, meanwhile, commented on Warnock.
