Leeds fans react as footage of Jamie Shackleton emerges in away end at Old Trafford

Leeds United’s Under-18 side battled bravely but ultimately suffered a 1-0 defeat to Manchester United’s youngsters at Old Trafford on Wednesday night – and fans have reacted to footage of Jamie Shackleton in the away end at Old Trafford.

Leeds are renowned for their impressive support and it was on show once again, as the Yorkshire club took an astounding 1,400 supporters to Old Trafford to watch Mark Jackson’s Under-18’s. Midfielder Shackleton was one of those.

In what was the last 16 of the FA Youth Cup, Dillon Hoogewerf scored the only goal of the game for Manchester United – heading a cross past Cooper Skerry. Striker Henry Kumwenda was sent off for a second yellow card.

Plenty of first-team players reacted on Twitter to the narrow defeat to Leeds’ bitter rivals, but Thorp Arch academy product Shackleton took it one step further – attending the match, and videos have emerged of him starting songs at Old Trafford.

Diminutive midfielder Shackleton joined the Leeds academy aged just seven, and has since remained at the club – becoming a graduate and playing 34 times for the senior side. This season has been frustrating, with injury stopping any momentum.

Leeds fans reacted to videos of Shackleton that emerged on Twitter, with many applauding the three-time England Under-20 international for his support of his boyhood club.
