Leeds fans react as club reportedly see £10m offer rejected for 24-year-old

Leeds United have reportedly seen a £10million bid rejected for Lyon wide man Maxwel Cornet this summer. The Whites are on the verge of completing a move to sign Barcelona defender Junior Firpo. But that has not stopped their search for new players – and Leeds fans want Cornet signed.

Cornet, 24, has been linked with Leeds for the majority of the summer window. The 22-time Ivory Coast international has been used at left-back over the last 12 months, but is more than capable in playing on the left or right of an attacking threesome. He has two years left on his contract.

on Monday that Leeds have tabled an offer worth £10million – though the figure is said to be below Lyon’s valuation. Of course, Leeds are closing in on the signing of Firpo which reduces the need for a left-sided defender – but Cornet’s versatility could make him ideal.

What are Leeds fans saying about Cornet?

On paper, with Cornet playing left-back at the moment, it is a move that makes little sense. Leeds have cover for Firpo at left-back in the form of Stuart Dallas and then Leif Davis and Niall Huggins. But Dallas plays in the middle of the park and both Davis and Huggins are Under-23 players.

Leeds fans have reacted on Twitter to reports that a bid has been tabled by the Yorkshire club for Cornet – and many believe he would be a good signing. One fan reckons his arrival could be a sign that Helder Costa might leave Elland Road in the coming weeks and months.
