Leeds fans react as club reportedly in talks to sign Nahitan Nandez

Leeds United reportedly opened talks to sign Cagliari midfielder Nahitan Nandez this summer, only for the Serie A side’s opener to state publicly that he will not be sold before Monday’s deadline – and Whites fans have responded.

Nandez, 24, joined Cagliari from Boca Juniors last summer after shining in Marcelo Bielsa’s home country – even playing a crucial part in Boca’s road to the 2018 Copa Libertadores final which was eventually lost against River Plate at the Bernabeu.

Last season, he was first choice for Cagliari – clocking up 38 appearances. Now, he has been joined by fellow Uruguayan ace Diego Godin at the Serie A side, but Leeds tried to take him to England this summer – with talks underway ().

However, immediately after that report surfaced, Cagliari president Tommaso Giulini stated that while Leeds wanted Nandez – and Argentina striker Giovanni Simeone – both players would not be moving as there is no time to bring in replacements.

“Leeds want both Nandez and Simeone, but we can rule out these players leaving in the final days of the transfer market, because we would be weakened,” Giulini said, “It’s too late, there wouldn’t be time to replace them.”

While Giulini ruled out a move before Monday, it is clear that he may be open to business in future windows with Leeds seemingly happy to splash the cash. They have spent big on the likes of Rodrigo, Diego Llorente, Robin Koch and Helder Costa.

Leeds fans reacted to the news that their club were reportedly in talks to sign Nandez and despite the Cagliari President’s comments on the future of the Uruguayan, supporters want to see the tenacious midfielder in a Whites shirt.
