Leeds fans react as Angus Kinnear shares behind-the-scenes decision made by Marcelo Bielsa this summer

Angus Kinnear has told BBC Radio Leeds that Marcelo Bielsa has chosen not to return to his native Argentina this summer. Instead, Kinnear says the Leeds United manager has remained at Elland Road to help prepare for 2021-22. Leeds fans responded on Twitter, amazed by their iconic gaffer.

Bielsa, 65, has already earned legendary status in his three years at Leeds. He has taken the club from the middle of the Championship – to the middle of the Premier League. Largely with the same group of players, too. But now, he will be looking to build on last season’s ninth-placed finish.

Kinnear spoke of Bielsa’s decision to remain at the training ground. He claims that Bielsa might be the only manager in the Premier League to continue working during the summer. The Leeds CEO stated Bielsa wants to help plan for the transfer window, and a training ground revamp.

“Marcelo decided not to go back to Argentina this summer,” “He wanted to work with Victor and I on the transfer window and to oversee the training ground work. I’m not sure there is any other manager who is not taking any time off, not leaving the training ground. I’m treating his contract as a formality.”

What are Leeds fans saying about Bielsa staying in Yorkshire?

Leeds fans do not need any excuse to exercise their love for Bielsa. He has rejuvenated the adoration between club and supporters. It is an incredible feat to get Leeds promoted with basically the same squad, and then take them to the top half of the Premier League table.

But the novelty of the Premier League might now wear off. It affected Sheffield United and Wolves during 2020-21. That could be why Bielsa has decided to stay put in order to work hard and keep Leeds growing further. Leeds fans have raved about Bielsa after Kinnear says he has stayed.
