Leeds fans react as Alex Mowatt goal turns four years old

Alex Mowatt is winning over the hearts of Barnsley fans as he continues to captain The Tykes side in their bid to survive in the Championship following last season’s promotion – but Leeds fans have sent him some heartfelt messages on Twitter.

That is because it is four years to this day that the 24-year-old’s stunning 30-yard strike against Huddersfield Town flew into the top corner, as the Whites secured a stunning 3-0 away from home against their Yorkshire rivals.

Mowatt is renowned for his left-foot screamers, but the goal for Leeds is certainly one of his best, as he picked the ball up from around 40 yards out, drove forward and slammed an effort into the top corner past goalkeeper Joe Murphy.

The Leeds academy graudate is in excellent form this season for Barnsley, having a hand in five goals during his 13 Championship appearances. Scoring in a 1-1 draw against Swansea, Mowatt has also laid on four assists.

Indeed, Mowatt is no longer a young midfielder with potential. Instead, he is turning that potential into quality, with 236 appearances to his name at senior level for Leeds, Barnsley and Oxford United.

Leeds fans reacted to the video on Twitter, with many applauding Mowatt and recalling where they were on the day Mowatt scored arguably his best ever goal for Leeds. Some fans have even suggested that Leeds should bring him back to Elland Road.
