Leeds fans rave about 17-year-old talent as Under-23 side beat Wolves

Leeds United’s Under-23 side took another big step towards promotion to the top tier of Premier League 2 football on Friday afternoon as Mark Jackson’s side beat Wolves 2-0 – and Leeds fans are raving about 17-year-old talent Charlie Allen.

The Whites came into the match knowing that they would go 13 points clear at the top of the division, though Stoke do now have two games in hand. The scored two early goals, through Spain international Rodrigo on his return from injury.

Rodrigo produced an excellent finish for the first after a well-worked free-kick – Stuart McKinstry with the assist. Max Dean then won a penalty, and Rodrigo duly obliged. Rodrigo and Gaetano Berardi went off after 45 minutes.

On came Sam Greenwood and Ian Poveda, who have also had injuries of late. But the scoreline remained 2-0, taking Leeds to within touching distance of promotion. But it was 17-year-old Allen that caught the eye of many supporters on social media.

Signed only last summer, it was Allen’s seventh appearance for the 23’s but he was excellent. Work rate, quality on the ball, and the ability to composure in tricky situations saw him shine head and shoulders above his teammates.

Leeds fans raved about the five-time Northern Ireland Under-17 star, on Twitter.
