Leeds fans praised midfielder Jamie Shackleton after Salford win

Jamie Shackleton completed 90 minutes in the win over Salford City on Tuesday night – and some Leeds United fans on Twitter were blown away by his performance.

The 19-year-old midfielder got his first appearance of the season in the 3-0 victory over Salford in the first round of the Carabao Cup.

He impressed in the centre of the park for the Whites, where he saw plenty of possession and was effective in a box-to-box role.

His intelligent through ball split the Salford defence for the opening goal, which was eventually finished off by Eddie Nketiah from close-range.

Senior players Gaetano Berardi and Mateusz Klich then netted in the second-half to ensure progression into the next season, where Leeds host Championship rivals Stoke City.

A selection of Leeds supporters on social media singled out Shackleton after his performance against Salford.

The teenager is a product of the club’s academy and he made a first-team breakthrough last season under manager Marcelo Bielsa.

He’s now played 25 senior games for his boyhood club and initially slotted in as a make-shift right-back, but is beginning to show his talent in a preferred midfield role and could be the next breakout star.

Shackleton is confident in driving forward with the ball and also has a fantastic passing range.
