Leeds fans impressed by U23 talent in 3-1 defeat to Ajax
Leeds United suffered a 3-1 defeat in the first of two friendlies against Ajax on Wednesday afternoon in The Netherlands. A mix of first-team players, including Kalvin Phillips, and Under-23 stars took to the field. Despite a heavy defeat, Leeds fans were impressed by right-back Cody Drameh.
Marcelo Bielsa and his staff watched on from one of Ajax’s training ground, naming a mix of first-team players and younger, up-and-coming stars. Liam Cooper, Phillips, Adam Forshaw, Ian Poveda and Tyler Roberts all started. Other than Poveda, all were taken off at half-time by Bielsa.
Max de Waal opened the scoring with a neat finish, before poor defending from a corner saw Christian Rasmussen get his goal. The latter was excellent for Ajax, scoring a goal and creating the first. Ajax netted a third in the second half, as 17-year-old Kristian Hlynsson netted.
Leeds did get one of their own, as Max Dean wriggled inside and out before winning a penalty. The striker got up, and scored from the spot.

What do Leeds fans think of Drameh and his display against Ajax?
Leeds fans watched on as The Whites struggled to cope with Ajax’s possession-based style and midfield dominance. But Drameh, a £1million () signing from Fulham in 2020, was excellent. A key part of the Under-23 side, Drameh was praised by Leeds fans on Twitter against Ajax.
