Leeds fans drool over 25-year-old as he shines for Uruguay at Copa America

Uruguay produced a comfortable 2-0 win over Bolivia to book their place in the quarter-finals of Copa America on Thursday night. An own goal, and a well-placed finish from Edinson Cavani did the trick. But Leeds fans were amazed by the performance of midfielder Nahitan Nandez, amid reports.

Nandez, 26, wore the number eight shirt but started the match at right-back as Uruguay looked to beat Bolivia and enter the knockout rounds. He was excellent, up and down despite playing in an unusual position. Normally, Nandez is a box-to-box or holding midfielder. But he is clearly, versatile.

Leeds have been strongly linked with a move for the 38-time Uruguay international over the last 12 months. Those rumours are emerging once again, and according to , Nandez is ‘ready to leave’ Cagliari for Leeds United. Interest from Roma and Inter Milan has subsided.

What are Leeds fans saying about Nandez and his performance for Uruguay?

It is believe Leeds would have to pay a club-record fee, just a touch over the £27million they paid for Rodrigo last summer. His release clause – as per – is £31million. But on Thursday night’s showing against Bolivia, he is easily worth that kind of figure this summer.

Leeds fans watched on as Nandez starred in the sky blue of Uruguay. His energy, his versatility and his aggression were traits clearly on show – and ones that would see him shine under Marcelo Bielsa. Many believe he would be a top signing for Leeds in the coming weeks and months.
