Leeds fans discuss Jamie Shackleton display, just his fourth start in 2021

Leeds United eventually eased into the third round of the Carabao Cup with a 3-0 win over Crewe Alexandra on Tuesday night. While it took Leeds until the 79th minute to open the scoring, they did dominate the game and deserved to win. Leeds fans discussed Jamie Shackleton on Twitter.

The Whites eventually opened the scoring through England midfielder Kalvin Phillips – his first goal of the season. Wearing the captain’s armband for the night, the no.23 placed a Jack Harrison corned into the back of the net with a low drive. It came after numerous missed chances throughout.

The introduction of Patrick Bamford made an enormous difference and the striker set up his side’s second. Breaking free down the right, he cut inside finding Harrison – who delicately chipped Will Jaaskelainen. Harrison then lashed a third in, after Tyler Roberts saw an effort saved.

Leeds fans discuss Shackleton display in win over Crewe

Shackleton has found game time hard to come by since Leeds gained promotion. Just 13 Premier League appearances, only three of which were starts, were afforded to the academy product last season. While only 22 games came his way in total, it seems to be improving this time around.

He got half an hour against Everton and while he remained an unused substitute at Manchester United, Shackleton started on Tuesday. With Luke Ayling rested, the no.46 played on the right side of defence and was excellent. Leeds fans have applauded the versatile Shackleton on Twitter.

Some, though, feel Shackleton – starting just his fourth match since the turn of the year – could have done more and did not exploit the space afforded to him by Crewe on the right flank.
