Leeds fans delighted with Rodrigo as he shines for Spain in draw with Portugal

Rodrigo earned his 24th cap for Spain on Wednesday night as he played the first half of his country’s 0-0 friendly draw with Portugal – and Leeds United supporters have reacted on Twitter to the summer signing’s display.

Rodrigo, 29, has made an exciting start to life at Elland Road and linked up with the Spain squad in high spirits – after the striker scored against Manchester City on Saturday evening during a 1-1 draw between Leeds and Pep Guardiola’s side.

The Brazil-born attacker started alongside Dani Olmo and Gerard Moreno in a front three under Luis Enrique, as Spain looked to beat the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo and Wolves trio Ruben Neves, Joao Moutinho and Rui Patricio.

Though he failed to score, Rodrigo looked sharp from the right flank before being replaced at half-time. The striker is expected to feature in Spain’s UEFA Nations League games against Switzerland on Saturday, and Ukraine next Tuesday.

Rodrigo was one of two Leeds players in the Spain side, with Diego Llorente also starting at centre-back despite remaining on the bench as an unused substitute against Manchester City. Robin Koch played for Germany against Turkey.

Leeds fans watched on as Rodrigo impressed throughout the first half, and many applauded their club-record signing for his performance. One supporter said he looked a “whole level better than anyone else on the pitch”.
