Leeds defender Liam Cooper needs to step up with Lewis Grabban his next opponent

Leeds United travel to Nottingham Forest on Saturday in the Championship and it’s getting to a serious stage in the season where they need a positive result.

Marcelo Bielsa’s side are sat second in the league table, while fourth-placed Forest are only four points behind them and are part of a chasing pack hunting down the automatic spots.

The Whites have just a three-point cushion over Fulham in third and they have been loosening their grip on the automatic positions during the past month.

They have lost three of their last four league matches and desperately need a win to get back on track.

Leeds have had significant issues in their defence of late, something which was not a problem in the earlier stages of the season.

The entire backline appears to have gone a bit stale and defender Liam Cooper is someone who has to raise his game.

Cooper, 28, is a regular in Bielsa’s XI and the club captain, but individual errors and sloppy play has been a factor of his game in recent weeks.

The English centre-back has to regain his form by the time this weekend comes around, as he could be severely punished for any mistakes against Forest.

Leeds unfortunately are about to come up against a centre-forward that has tormented them in recent years and need to be at their best defensively at the City Ground.

Lewis Grabban has scored five goals in his last six starts against Leeds and will be well aware of his decent individual record against them during his career.

The centre-forward has been in great form this campaign for Forest, with 16 goals in 30 Championship appearances so far and

The 32-year-old is going to pounce on any mistakes around the penalty area at the weekend and it would be no surprise if he tries to pin himself on Cooper, rather than his centre-back partner Ben White.
