Leeds could now let ‘top class’ player join Championship rivals despite impressing Farke in training

Leeds United defender Charlie Cresswell could be set for a move to one of the Whites’ Championship rivals in January.

Cresswell finds himself out of favour with Leeds manager Daniel Farke right now when it comes to being selected in the starting XI.

The young defender is believed to be impressing Farke in training, however, game time has been limited and he has been linked with a move away in January. Middlesbrough are among the clubs said to be keen on Cresswell, who starred on loan at Millwall last season.

But now, according to , it is Championship rivals Southampton who are keen on landing Cresswell from Leeds.

The Sun reports that Southampton and the aforementioned Middlesbrough are keen on taking Cresswell off of Leeds’ hands.

The 21-year-old is likely to pursue a move away and it’s claimed Leeds are open to allowing him out on loan.

Of course, a move to Southampton would turn heads given they are one of the teams challenging Leeds for promotion this season. Russell Martin’s side remain in the top six and despite inconsistencies, are very much in the mix.

For Leeds, allowing a young defender like Cresswell to join and ultimately help a rival would be a big call.

Daniel Farke, of course, will be the one who makes the final call you’d suspect and you’d imagine he’d be wanting cover signed if he does ok a move for Cresswell.

Leeds drew 1-1 with Coventry City this weekend and face a big game next weekend against high-flying Ipswich Town.

Farke has managed to get the Whites playing some exciting football but after beating Leicester a few weeks back, a gap has started to open up once more between them and the top two in the Championship.
