Leeds can repeat Ben White coup with loan move for Tottenham ace – TBR View

Leeds United have been linked with a loan move for Tottenham defender Joe Rodon.

According to , the Whites are keeping tabs on the Spurs powerhouse ahead of the January transfer window.

However, Leeds aren’t the only club reportedly eyeing the Tottenham centre-back.

As well as the Elland Road outfit, Watford and Brighton are also in the mix.

Meanwhile, Newcastle are apparently leading the race for Rodon.

Leeds are certainly in dire need of bolstering their ranks come January.

The Whites have been struggling this season and are short of options at the back.

Leeds captain Liam Cooper is currently out injured, while Diego Llorente and Pascal Struijk are also on the sidelines.

Meanwhile, Luke Ayling is struggling for fitness and Robin Koch has only just returned from an injury.

Therefore, Rodon would be a great option for Marcelo Bielsa in the Leeds back four.

The 6ft 4in ace is a realistic signing, as he’s not getting much game time under Spurs boss Antonio Conte.

Rodon doesn’t seem surplus to requirements at Tottenham – he just needs some experience.

And he’s certainly got the credentials to shine for Leeds, much like Ben White did in 2019-20.

Rodon has made just 20 first-team appearances at Spurs, of which eight have been Premier League starts.

It’s a completely different story for him at international level, having become a crucial player for Wales.

Rodon has already won 22 caps for the Dragons, and has played the full 90 minutes in their last four World Cup qualifiers.

Can Leeds land “very important” defender who “celebrates tackles and blocks”?

Former Wales and Swansea centre-back Ashley Williams lauded Rodon following the 1-0 win over Estonia in October.

“He’s very important (to Wales),” Williams said on Sky Sports(11/10/21, 7:20 pm).

“He is one of the very first names on the teamsheet.

“I have been a big fan of Joe’s for years now. I think he is someone we are going to build the team around.

“I think when Joe plays, I love to watch him play because he can do both sides.

“He’s very composed in what he does, when it’s chaotic, he settles the game down a little bit.

“Take a touch and he’s not panicking at all.

“He can start attacks for Wales from the back.

“Breaking the teams’ press, it just nullifies the opposition and what they are trying to do.

“And we are up the pitch with one dribble or a couple of passes.

“On the other side, he’s a little old school, which you don’t get to see these days from a defender.

“He celebrates tackles and blocks.”

Sounds like a great shout for Leeds – and they should do all they can to land him on loan from Tottenham.
