Todd Cantwell and Leeds star react on Instagram to Arsenal man’s display
Arsenal secured a statement victory, beating Leicester 2-0 at the King Power Stadium on Saturday. The Gunners sent out a message to their rivals with a dominant display. Aaron Ramsdale was in fine form and afterwards, he received messages from Kalvin Phillips and Todd Cantwell on
Eyebrows were raised when Arsenal parted with a potential £30 million fee for Ramsdale. It was initially thought he’d be a backup to Bernd Leno and many thought Ramsdale was expensive.
He has soon proved people wrong, however. The 23-year-old has ousted Leno from between the posts and is now firmly established as Arsenal’s number one goalkeeper.
On Saturday his performance was breathtaking. A save from a James Maddison free-kick left Peter Schmeichel purring, with the legend calling it one of the best saves he’s seen for ages.
With England games just around the corner, Gareth Southgate has a decision to make. Jordan Pickford has rarely let England down, but Ramsdale is in the form of his life.
A big call awaits for the Three Lions gaffer and perhaps the Arsenal stopper is edging towards his maiden England cap. Certainly, on current form, it would be just the tonic for the youngster.
What have Phillips and Cantwell said about Arsenal star Ramsdale?
Phillips played in each game at Euro 2020 as England reached the final before losing to Italy. Ramsdale was the third-choice goalkeeper at the tournament so the pair do know each other.
He summed up the goalkeeper’s heroics with one word and he couldn’t quite believe what the stopper had done against Leicester.
Cantwell knows Ramsdale from the pair’s days playing for the England under-21 outfit. The Norwich midfielder is currently nursing an injury but he used three words in response to Ramsdale.
He tipped his cap to the Arsenal man’s superb form in general and supporters must be hoping he can continue in this rich vein of performance level.
