Lee Sharpe tells £190,000-a-week player to leave Manchester United and join West Ham

Lee Sharpe has backed Harry Maguire to leave Manchester United and join David Moyes at West Ham.

The English defender has had a difficult year at Old Trafford. He was on the verge of leaving Manchester United in the summer, and West Ham were keen to sign him then. Sharpe thinks it would be a great move in January.

Lee Sharpe backs Manchester United’s Harry Maguire to join West Ham

Harry Maguire has been involved in both, the highs and the lows at Manchester United this year.

The 30-year-old was removed as the captain back in July, and it looked almost certain that he would leave the club in the summer transfer window.

West Ham pushed really hard to sign the Englishman, but David Moyes had to pull out of the deal in the end because it was too expensive.

Maguire played 13 games on the bounce for Manchester United before he got injured, and he was brilliant. He even won the Player of the Month award in November for his performances.

Speaking about the defender, Lee Sharpe believes he would be a great fit under David Moyes at West Ham United.

He told : “I don’t know Harry Maguire, I don’t know what the manager talks to him about, I don’t know if he’s sort of thinking behind what’s going on.

“But I look at a West Ham move on the surface and think what a great move it would be. I know West Ham struggled a bit last year, but that was probably due to being in Europe for the first time in a while.

“They’ve come back again and looked decent this year. They’ll always have a decent team. David Moyes is a really good manager, and he [Maguire] would benefit from playing under David Moyes in a team like West Ham.”

Manchester United should keep Maguire

Erik ten Hag clearly didn’t fancy Maguire in the summer, and we’re sure he had his reasons.

However, when the £190,000-a-week () Englishman got back into the team and played brilliantly for two months, it became clear that he’s still more than capable of performing for Manchester United.

The Red Devils would love to sign a new centre-back in January. Raphael Varane has been linked with a move back to Real Madrid, and there is a small chance that could happen.

Irrespective of the decision on Varane’s future, Maguire deserves to stay. Lisandro Martinez aside, he is their best defender, and Manchester United should keep hold of him unless a massive offer arrives on the table.
