Lee Dixon heaps praise on West Ham player after win over Sheffield United

of West Ham United’s 3-0 win over Sheffield United, as David Moyes’ side cruised to a win that placed them in the top four, for a matter of hours.

Goals from Declan Rice, Issa Diop and Ryan Fredericks saw the Hammers climb into the Champions League slots on Monday night, only for the East London side to then drop out straight away – as Chelsea beat Newcastle United 2-0.

Rice opened the scoring from the penalty spot after Jesse Lingard was fouled, before a delicious cross from Aaron Cresswell was headed into the net by Diop just before the hour mark. It was three in injury time, as substitute Fredericks netted.

Dixon has applauded the cross of £4million () West Ham signing Cresswell, as it was his cross that saw the Hammers double the lead and secure all three points – their 12th win from 24 Premier League matches. They sit in fifth place.

“Aaron Cresswell take a bow, it’s all about the pace on the cross. Ben Osborn tries to block Diop but it’s no match, Osborn is pointless there, he’s not going to beat Diop in the air,” Dixon said.

TBR’s view – Cresswell form should not go unnoticed

West Ham are in excellent form. To be sitting fifth is testament to the work Moyes and his staff is doing, but also thanks to the performances of the likes of Rice, Tomas Soucek and plenty of other Hammers stars – including Cresswell.

England lack the plethora of options they have on the right side of the defence, with James Justin also being ruled out with a long-term knee injury. Options include Luke Shaw, Ainsley Maitland-Niles, Ryan Bertrand and others.

But surely, for a team that sit in fifth place, Cresswell deserves a shot in the England side?
