Lee Dixon hails £19m West Ham player’s ‘commanding’ international display
West Ham United steadied the ship somewhat ahead of the October international break and will now be looking at how their players fare for their countries.
The Hammers’ last Premier League fixture saw them run out 4-1 winners over Ipswich, after having come from behind to draw 1-1 at Brentford.
One of West Ham’s players gave a strong international performance on Thursday night, and in front of the eyes of the nation too.
Lee Dixon has sung the Hammers man’s praises, saying he looked like a “world-beater” on the night.

Lee Dixon hails West Ham and Greece ‘world-beater’ Konstantinos Mavropanos
The player in question is Konstantinos Mavropanos, who played the full 90 minutes for Greece as they ran out 2-1 winners over England at Wembley.
The £19million West Ham man defended well, ensuring the Three Lions barely got any chances to threaten.
Mavropanos also had the ball in the back of England’s net and thought he’d scored the opener, but was adjudged to have been offside.
Dixon liked what he saw from the Hammers powerhouse, telling (10/10/2024): “Mavropanos looks like a world beater today.
“Most of the build-up play [from Greece] he’s not really involved physically but he’s commanding the midfield players in front of him.
“But anytime the ball comes near him in the box, the ball seems to hit him at some point. Positionally he’s been very good.”

Mavropanos slips down West Ham pecking order
Mavropanos has fallen down the pecking order at West Ham in recent weeks, with Jean-Clair Todibo taking his place.
He started the Hammers’ first five Premier League games, but lately he has had to make do with a spot on the bench.
It remains to be seen what the future holds for Mavropanos, with Lopetegui now favouring Todibo and Max Kilman – both his own signings – in the West Ham defence.
