Lee Carsley names first England squad for Nations League fixtures against Ireland and Finland

England have named their first international squad of the 2024-2025 season as they begin their Nations League campaign.

Lee Carsley oversees his first game in charge as interim boss, replacing Gareth Southgate🍌 after resigned from the role following eight years in charge.

Joining Carsley on his coaching team will be Ashley Cole, who worked with him at Under-21s level, as well as Joleon Lescott𓂃 and Tim Ditter – the Football Association’s head of coaching.

The Three Lions will also play for the first time since their Euro 2024 heartbreak against Spain and begin with an age-old rivalry against the Republic of Ireland before taking on Finland.

𒉰Carsley will be familiar with Ireland having represented them during his playing days and was heavily linked with the job before they chose to appoint former Iceland and Jamaica manager, Heimir Hallgrimsson.

One player who didn’t make the squad is Kieran Trippier🍸, who announced his retirement from international football just hours before the announcement
