Leander Dendoncker must now wish he was at West Ham United

Throughout January, West Ham were linked with the signing of Anderlecht midfielder Leander Dendoncker. The versatile Belgian, who can also play at centre-back or right-back, was a clear target for the Hammers.

However, they were not keen on the asking price. Anderlecht wanted £18 million for the player, as

, the Hammers offered only €5 million (£4.4m) up front for the player with the overall fee eventually rising to €15 million (£13.3m), still £4.7 million short of Anderlecht’s asking price. With that in mind, Dendoncker was denied a move to West Ham.

After impressing v England at the World Cup in the summer, Dendoncker did finally make a move to the UK. He joined Wolverhampton Wanderers in a loan deal, which will be made permanent for £13.5 million next year,

Judging by how his season has gone with Wolves so far, he will no doubt wish his move to West Ham had gone through.

Dendoncker has not played a single minute of Premier League football this season. In fact, he only made the matchday squad for the first time for the recent clash with Brighton and Hove Albion. His only appearances have been in the League Cup against Sheffield Wednesday and Leicester City.

No doubt he would have seen more regular action at West Ham this term. He must now work hard in training to prove himself at Wolves. If he cannot do that, then West Ham may consider him a bullet dodged.
