Leaky Everton have surely got to consider wantaway Jerome Boateng next month

Everton have been struggling at both ends of the pitch this season.

The Toffees have been somewhat toothless in attack but, perhaps most concerningly, they have been shipping a lot of goals especially from set-pieces.

Yerry Mina has done well in parts, but Michael Keane has largely struggled.

At the moment, Everton only have those two and Mason Holgate as their centre-half options, with Jean-Philippe Gbamin still out injured.

There is, therefore, genuine need for Everton to target a new central defender in January and one with a lot of experience might just have become available.

, Jerome Boateng will push for a move away from Bayern Munich next month, after clashing with teammate Joshua Kimmich during the 6-1 win over Werder Bremen.

They say Bayern are unlikely to stand in the World Cup winner’s way.

TBR’s view Everton need defensive cover

Everton should consider striking if Boateng really does want out at Bayern.

They have been really poor in defence this year and Boateng could be a decent pickup.

He is vastly experienced, and has several German titles to his name.

Standing at 6ft 4in tall, he is aerially dominant and could potentially help Everton with their Achilles heel of defending against set-pieces.

Aged 31 now, Boateng is no longer in his prime, but he is still a fairly high level and likely wouldn’t break the bank to sign.

Certainly, if Carlo Ancelotti comes in, which seems very likely now according to recent reports, a deal could make sense given the Italian previously managed Boateng at the Germans.
