‘Lazily conceded’: Arsenal loanee gets 2/10 rating after disappointing EL display

Arsenal loanees William Saliba and Matteo Guendouzi started for Marseille in their Europa League clash against Galatasaray last night.
Saliba and Guendouzi have both been phenomenal for Les Phoceens this season. Some Arsenal supporters are furious about the fact that Mikel Arteta let the pair leave instead of giving them a chance at the Emirates.
Guendouzi lost his place due to indiscipline and we all know Arteta doesn’t tolerate that. However, the Arsenal boss’ treatment of Saliba has really frustrated some fans, who can’t understand why the young Frenchman is yet to make his debut for the club.
However, his performance last night hints why Arteta didn’t believe he was ready for the Premier League.
Arsenal loanee William Saliba rated 2/10
released their player ratings following Marseille’s 4-2 defeat to Galatasaray last night. Saliba, unfortunately for him, was the worst rated player on the pitch.
After giving the young Arsenal man a 2/10 rating, the outlet wrote: “Sometimes his calm, serene on-field persona can descend into passivity and an absence of gumption and, much like the rest of this OM side, this was one such occasion.
“He lazily conceded possession for Feghouli’s third and completely lost Babel after a simple long ball for 4-1.”

TBR View:
Saliba, like most of his teammates, had a shocking game last night, but that does not mean he’s a bad player. He is one of the best defenders of his age in the world, but last night showed that he has a lot to improve.
Arsenal fans are furious about the fact that Arteta didn’t give him a chance. The Gunners boss was adamant he wasn’t ready for the Premier League, and his assessment may just have been right.
A season away on loan at a difficult club like Marseille could turn out to be a blessing for Saliba. He will learn a lot from his good performances and he’ll learn even more when he makes mistakes like he did last night.
It will be interesting to see what Arteta does with Saliba next summer. It will be difficult for the youngster to displace either Ben White or Gabriel Magalhaes, but if Arsenal get back into Europe, he will definitely get his opportunities.
