‘Last thing he wants’… President now suggests £65m player has no desire to join Tottenham
A Club President has now suggested that his player has no desire to join Tottenham this summer.
The comments were made during an interview with Mundo Deportivo in Spain.
So, which player seemingly has no interest in signing for Tottenham? Let’s take a look…
Joan Laporta suggests Frenkie de Jong has no desire to join Tottenham
Well – according to – Tottenham were keen to sign Frenkie de Jong from Barcelona in January.
The respected journalist claimed that Spurs even made a £51m bid.
No move materialised and De Jong – who cost Barcelona – ended up staying in Catalonia, although Tottenham’s interest remains amid doubts over the future of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg in N17.
Now, however, Joan Laporta – President of Barcelona – has suggested that the Netherlands international has no desire to leave Spain for Tottenham, or any other club for that matter.
The 61-year-old : “Frenkie de Jong is super happy here. The last thing he wants is leaving Barcelona. He always told me that he loves to be at Barca and we’re delighted with Frenkie too. I’m not worried with his future at all.”

Pretty clear from Laporta – to say the least.
It would now represent a major shock if De Jong left Barcelona for Tottenham this summer.
The Barcelona No.21 has made appearances in all competitions so far this season, scoring two goals.
Spurs already own an alternative to the Dutchman
We aren’t quite sure why Tottenham would want to sign De Jong anyway, as Ange Postecoglou already has a similar midfielder right under his nose in Lucas Bergvall.
The Sweden international – who Spurs signed from Djurgarden in an deal back in January – has actually been compared to the Dutchman, as well as Jude Bellingham.

Tottenham even managed to convince the 18-year-old to reject Barcelona in favour of a move to N17.
By all accounts, Bergvall is a top talent, and it would make no sense to block his pathway with an expensive move for De Jong, or another midfielder.
