‘Last minute’: ‘Amazing’ attacker claims Arsenal tried to sign him after Aubameyang left in January

Club Brugge attacker Noa Lang has claimed today that Arsenal made a late attempt to sign him in the January transfer window after it was decided that Pierre-Emerick Aubemayang was going to leave.
Mikel Arteta’s side’s biggest problem last season was their lack of firepower in front of goal. Aubameyang looked nothing like his previous self in the first half of last campaign, while Alexandre Lacazette was brilliant at everything else on the pitch apart front getting the ball in the back of the net.
The Gunners boss axed Aubameyang in December last year and made up his mind that he wasn’t going to use the Gabon star again. Arsenal decided to terminate the striker’s contract in January, and just as they were about to do that, they tried to bring in another attacker.
Brugge’s Dutch winger Lang was the man Arteta apparently wanted to sign.
Noa Lang says Arsenal tried to sign him after Aubameyang left in January
Lang has long been linked with a move to Arsenal. The 22-year-old has been one of the best players in the Belgian top flight, and he claims that the Gunners made a very late move to sign him in January.
Asked about the winter window, the versatile attacker told , as quoted by : “Because one of them only really left at the last minute [Aubameyang], they [Arsenal] wanted to hire someone quickly. But that was no longer possible.”
Speaking about his future, Lang all but confirmed that he’ll leave Bruge this summer: “In my head, yes (I’m leaving). You never know what will happen, of course, but it’s really not planned to stay at Club Brugge for another year.
“I could have left last year, but I’m grateful that I stayed one more season. I really learned a lot this year, and now I’m more ready for the next step.”

Compared to Robin van Persie
Lang is certainly a talented player. He ended last season with nine goals and 15 assists in all competitions, and it’s only a matter of time before he leaves Belgium for a big European league.
Following his impressive performance for the Netherlands in their 6-0 win against Gibraltar seven months ago, Pierre Van Hooijdonk compared the young attacker to someone Arsenal fans know very well – Robin van Persie.
“The quality just radiates from him. He reminds me of Robin Van Persie,” the former Dutch striker said, .
Spurs fan favourite Rafael van der Vaart added: “With his actions, he created chances, the type you need against these kinds of opponents. He’s pretty much the play-maker from the left. Amazing to watch.”
