Lack of goals means Wolves must move for striker in January
Last season, Wolves scored a remarkable 82 goals as they took the Championship by storm and won promotion back to the Premier League.
In their opening 13 matches so far this season, they’ve managed only 12 – less than one per game.
If they maintain their early-season record, they’ll manage 41 goals this season, which would mean a drop of 50% in their goal return over the course of the season.
It’s an understandable struggle for Wolves. The quality of opponent is considerably higher, and they are still managing the league better than their fellow promoted clubs.
Wolves currently sit 11th with 16 points, while Cardiff and Fulham sit 19th and 20th respectively, both with only eight points on the board.
Despite their considerably better defensive record, however, Wolves currently only have a goal more than Cardiff to their name, and two less than Fulham.
If Wanderers are looking not only to survive but to thrive in the Premier League, Nuno Espirito Santo must invest in a striker soon.
The Mirror report that Wolves are planning a move for Liverpool’s Divock Origi, after a failed approach in the summer.
Though Origi is expected to be available and has shown signs of promise during his time at Liverpool, Wolves may consider a move for a more established forward who – coupled with their robust system – may even see them crack the top ten.
