Yesterday saw Rangers bring Kyle Lafferty back to the club for his second spell at Ibrox. The Glasgow side first signed the Northern Irishman from Burnley back in 2008. A boyhood Rangers fan, he left in 2008 for Swiss side Sion as Rangers’ financial problems hit hard.
It has been no secret ever since that Lafferty would relish a return to Ibrox. Steven Gerrard decided to give him the chance and the 30-year-old has snapped it up.
The move certainly brings a cheeky tweet of Lafferty’s from the summer into focus.

Back in July, with Lafferty enjoying the British heatwave, he was playfully goaded by a Celtic fan regarding the club’s recent seventh title win in a row.
Lafferty responded by stating:
“Drink as much as you can, as things are about to change around here.”
It was a tongue-in-cheek response. It perhaps alluded to Rangers upcoming campaign under the guidance of Gerrard. Or, it could have been related to his most recent club Hearts’ chances of making a push for the title.

One thing for sure, things have certainly changed. Rangers look a far bigger threat to a fragile looking Celtic this term. Now, with constant Celtic scourge Lafferty in their ranks again, Rangers have renewed hope of giving their Old Firm rivals a real run for their money this season.
Rangers fans will hope Lafferty’s cheeky summer tweet is a foretelling of what is to come.
