Kris Boyd questions Rangers pair Helander and Goldson

Kris Boyd has suggested during that he is worried about Filip Helander and Connor Goldson ahead of the Gers’ Scottish League Cup final clash.

Steven Gerrard’s side squandered a two-goal lead at Pittodrie. The Gers went in front through Scott Arfield and doubled their lead thanks to Ryan Jack. However, some poor defending allowed the Dons back into the game.

The points were ultimately shared after Aberdeen goals in either half. Both Goldson and Helander could have questions asked of them for both goals. And Boyd insisted that the Rangers pair cannot afford to defend like that at Hampden Park if they hope to beat Celtic.

“The two centre-halves for Rangers are a worry for me, Helander and Goldson. I’ve said it for months now that they do struggle with pace,” .

“Once the full-backs are high, Helander starts to get dragged into these positions, one v one with people with pace. It’s no good for Rangers and it’s something that Steven Gerrard has a got a couple of days to work on.

“And it would be a worry because it was so easy for Aberdeen in the second-half to get in.”

Unfortunately, Gerrard appears to have backed himself into something of a corner. Nikola Katic came off the bench in the 89th minute to make his first appearance since mid-October. And it has been even longer since the Gers fans saw George Edmundson play for the first-team.

It is therefore, more than likely that Helander and Goldson will keep their places this weekend. And after watching Wednesday’s game, Rangers fans, like Boyd, may be extremely worried.

Of course, both players have shown that they are capable of colossal performances. But it is not going to be easy for either to produce that kind of display after a lacklustre outing just days before the final.
