‘Knock that one’… Mark Guidi suggests there’s a signing Celtic won’t be making in January
With Celtic looking to add quality to their squad in January, the fans will all have an idea of what positions the manager should look to strengthen.
After Saturday’s defeat to Hearts, you could have pointed to many positions on the park but the general consensus is that a left-back, goalkeeper, striker and maybe a holding midfielder is required.
However, journalist Mark Guidi has suggested that there is one signing that Celtic will not make in January despite a huge case being made for it over the last few weeks.
Guidi said [], “Joe Hart has been a target for disgruntled Celtic fans for months.
“I think the goalkeeper position needs to be looked at, but I don’t think it’s a priority for January.
“If somebody becomes available who can be their goalie for the next four seasons then yeah, go and do the deal.
“But if it’s a difference between spending £6 million on a goalie or spending £6 million on a striker or midfielder they would go and get those other guys before they replace a Joe Hart.
“So I would I would knock that one right away.”
High-profile errors against Motherwell and St Johnstone have put the spotlight firmly on Joe Hart this season.
His position at set-piece free-kicks is also suspect as is his failure to command his six-yard box at corners and crosses.
And yet despite all that, Benjamin Siegrist and Scott Bain still can’t dislodge the former England international from between the Parkhead sticks.

One thing is clear. Despite Hart being superb for Celtic over the past two seasons, it does seem now that he is well past his prime.
Whilst I believe he should be kept on at the club, his role now should be as a number two or within the coaching department to help with the youngster’s development.
Because as a number one, I’m afraid the time is up for the treble-winning hero.
