Klopp states that Shaqiri still has a future at Liverpool
Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has assembled a big and impressive squad at Anfield. The German coach can call on some quality options all over the pitch. However, due to this, some members of the squad get far less game time than they might want.
Xherdan Shaqiri is one of the Liverpool players currently struggling to get game time. The Swiss attacking-midfielder is yet to feature for the Reds in the Premier League this season. This is likely a frustrating situation for the 27-year-old.

However, Klopp has stated that Shaqiri still has a role to play on Merseyside. As quoted by the club’s , Klopp said, “Shaq is training well, that’s the situation…We will need him, he knows that 100 per cent. Is he the happiest player in the squad? I don’t think so. Can I see that on the training pitch? No. He is in a good mood, training hard, doing what he has to do and is ready for the moment when he has to help the team on the pitch”.
TBR’s view
Shaqiri is a supremely talented player. At many other Premier League clubs he’d be a regular starter. However, with the likes of Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane ahead of him in the pecking order at Liverpool, frequent starts are always going to be hard to come by. With Liverpool competing seriously in so many competitions though, Shaqiri will be called upon at some stage.
It is important that Liverpool do have high quality squad options, who can offer reliable back up and competition to the first choice stars. However, it’ll be a test for Klopp to keep Shaqiri, and the others in his position, happy over the course of the campaign.
