Klopp could start rarely-seen £63k-a-week Liverpool man tonight, he’s been ‘incredible’ in training – TBR View

Liverpool will hope to follow up one domestic cup triumph with progress in another tonight.

The Reds, who lifted the Carabao Cup on Sunday, will now host Norwich in the FA Cup fifth round.

Cup final hero Caoimhin Kelleher won’t start for Liverpool tonight, however.

“He had 120 minutes,” Jurgen Klopp told the Reds ahead of the Anfield clash.

“You asked me last week if he would play before, that he gets some rhythm and I said, ‘No, he’s used to the situation that he just comes on and has to play.’

“He’s not used to 120 minutes and being the hero. There’s no need to stress the situation now. No, he will not start tomorrow.”

Now, there is a chance that first-choice keeper Alisson Becker could return for Liverpool tonight.

However, with two big games on the horizon – West Ham at the weekend and Inter Milan next week – Klopp could well look to give another keeper a runout.

“Adrian is still here and is doing an incredible job”

Liverpool signed Adrian in 2019, and the former West Ham man was initially the Reds’ second-choice goalkeeper.

Shortly after signing, Adrian helped the Reds win the European Super Cup against Chelsea, keeping out Tammy Abraham’s spot kick.

“When I first spoke to him (about signing) it was clear we needed to get him fit but then we had to put him straight in,” Klopp after that game.

“He put in an incredible performance. Both goalkeepers did but for Adrian it was more surprising as there was no real preparation.”

Since then, Kelleher has leapfrogged Adrian to become Liverpool’s second choice in between the sticks.

However, Klopp remains very fond of the stopper.

It was the 35-year-old who stepped in for the Carabao Cup tie against Preston earlier in the season, with Alisson and Kelleher both unavailable.

And while Marcelo Pitaluga is progressing well, a high-stakes cup match against Premier League opposition may be too much a baptism of fire for him.

“Adrian is still here and is doing an incredible job,” Klopp said ahead of the Norwich match.

A talented goalkeeper whose minutes are now few and far between, tonight would be a great opportunity for Adrian to start.
