Kiko Casilla wages a factor in potential sale, according to Leeds United journalist

Leeds United’s goalkeeper situation going into the new season seems to be a topic for debate. Leeds snapped up Kiko Casilla from Real Madrid in the winter in an eye-catching transfer. However, the Spaniard showed mixed form at Elland Road and was largely to blame for the pay-off loss to Derby County.

reported last month that Leeds were considering selling the player as soon as this summer.

It seems it is not just his patchy form. Casilla is ‘comfortably the club’s highest earner’, according to Hay, earning around £35,000-a-week at Elland Road. Such a fee is putting considerable stress on the Leeds payroll and Hay stated Leeds would consider offers from Spain if they are forthcoming.

It would certainly be a mess for Leeds to deal with. It appears Casilla was brought in with the Premier League in mind and now they remain in the Championship the finances are looking tight.

Leeds could find themselves on the hunt for a new keeper should Casilla be moved on. The goalkeeper position has been a long-term problem for Leeds and there will no doubt be some frustration if once again Leeds have to go hunting for a new stopper.

But as it appears it is not just his struggles on the pitch which are forcing a potential Casilla exit, it looks likely that may be the case.
