Kieran Trippier says he’s improved massively since leaving Tottenham

Kieran Tripper that he believes that he has improved massively since leaving Tottenham Hotspur as he lauded the impact Diego Simeone has had on his career.

Simeone, of course, is attracting a lot of attention following Atletico Madrid’s Champions League exit on Wednesday. They suffered a 1-0 aggregate defeat to Manchester City, with the second-leg in the Spanish capital finishing goalless.

The Argentinian and his side are coming in for a lot of criticism from some sections of the media. But there is absolutely no question that Simeone has done a remarkable job with Atleti, winning La Liga twice, and reaching two Champions League finals.

And it would appear that Trippier feels that he owes a lot to El Cholo. The Newcastle star opened up on how his game was taken to the next level following his move from Tottenham.

“I think he improved me massively on my defending. Before I left there, when I was at Tottenham, I needed to improve my defending and he’s worked me so hard on the training field on my own and with the team and he’s improved my defensive side, my maturity on the pitch and leadership,” .

Trippier did appear to need his move away from Tottenham. His form had dipped from the high points of his spell in North London.

The move to Atletico seemed to be an important one for the right-back. And he is now back in the Premier League, with Newcastle United signing him for in January.

Trippier’s arrival appears to have had a massive impact. At the time, many could not understand why he joined, with Atletico fighting at the other end of the table in Spain.

But he has played brilliantly. And it is hard to imagine that his move to Tyneside did not have an impact on the players they went on to sign later in the window.

Trippier and Newcastle now look to have a superb chance of ensuring that they remain in the Premier League again next year.
