Key Leeds duo’s reaction to Pontus Jansson’s exit sums up how fans are feeling

Pontus Jansson has left Leeds United after three seasons at the club to join Championship rivals Brentford – to which Luke Ayling and Mateusz Klich have reacted, and their posts have summed up how fans are feeling.

Jansson, 28, has signed a three-year deal at Griffin Park, in what is a somewhat surprising move given that Jansson had been linked with a move to the Premier League. Instead, he has chosen to complete a sideways move.

It is believed the relationship between himself and manager Marcelo Bielsa had broken down, with incidents such as Aston Villa and the second leg against Derby County proving crucial in Bielsa ordering the defender to leave.

Jansson posted a statement on Twitter and on Instagram, thanking Leeds fans for the three years he has spent at the club after joining from Torino. Ayling reacted on Twitter, while Klich summed it up with one emoji on Instagram.

TBR’s view – Leeds fans heartbroken by Jansson decision

Klich and Ayling have completely summed it up. Not only have Leeds lost one of their best players, they have lost a fan favourite – one who knew what it meant to wear the shirt – and for a bargain £5.5million.

Fans have lost a player that they probably identify most with. His heart-on-the-sleeve displays, celebrating after delivering a crunching tackle and having his own celebrating with fans after the full-time whistle.

Losing Jansson is a loss in all meaning of the word. Financially, emotionally, and in terms of quality. But Klich, Ayling and the rest of the Elland Road fanbase must move on, and warm to a potential replacement.
