Ex-Sunderland striker Kevin Phillips has stated his ambition to manage his former club one day,
Phillips is a legend in the north-east having netted 113 goals in 208 appearances for the club.
Since retiring from football he has spent five years coaching at various clubs and has his sights set on the future.
Phillips is yet to manage a club but does have ambitions to do so, claiming that taking charge at Sunderland is something he would love to do.
“At some point, I’d love to go back to Sunderland and manage them. I was up there on Friday night watching the game and I’ve not been up for a good time. That stadium, when that place is rocking it’s a hell of a place to play football.”

The chance to manage the Black Cats is unlikely to emerge any time soon but Phillips still holds the club in high regard.
Jack Ross is the man currently in the hot seat and he has revived the fortunes of the flailing club.
Sunderland are firmly in the mix for a return to the Championship and they will hope to achieve that at the first time of asking.
The 45-year-old doesn’t know if he will ever realise his dream and concedes he might have to start lower down the pyramid.
“Ultimately I’d love to have that job at some point. Whether that will ever happen I don’t know.
“I take my hat off to people like Sol Campbell, Paul Scholes, you can’t be choosy and, at the end of the day, if something was to be presented to me tomorrow at a lower level then you’d have to look at it.”
Sunderland fans might be interested to hear that ‘King Kev’ would relish the chance to work at the club again.
They will be happy with the progress made at the club this season under Ross, but given his record as a player, Phillips would always be welcome back.
These comments might give the current boss food for thought, however, and who would rule out the former striker returning in some capacity in the future.
