Kevin Phillips has advice for Southampton’s Danny Ings, amid reported Tottenham interest
Danny Ings scored twice against Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday afternoon but saw his Southampton side lose 5-2 to Spurs amid reported interest from the north London club – and Kevin Phillips has urged the England ace to stay on the south coast.
Son Heung-min scored an impressive four goals with Harry Kane creating all four, before the England striker netted himself late on. Ings scored the first and last goals of the game, the latter coming from the penalty spot.
It sees England striker Ings, 28, continue his stunning form from last season – after netting 25 goals in 42 games. He now has two goals in three games, and that Spurs saw an approach for Ings rejected.
on Sunday afternoon that the Saints striker should stay on the south coast instead of moving to Jose Mourinho’s side – as the £20million signing () would be playing back-up to Kane at Spurs.

“If I’m in Danny Ings’ position after the season he had, I wouldn’t want to go somewhere and just sit on the bench and be bit-part,” . “At the stage of his career, after his injuries, he’s playing catch-up.
“At the moment, he is guaranteed to start at Southampton and he will want to be playing week in, week out. He is almost guarantted to score every time he plays, so I would certainly be staying where I am.”
TBR’s view – Ings would be wrong to join Tottenham
Though it would be understandable if he made that move. Tottenham are in Europe and even if Ings plays back-up, he would still play 20-30 times a season in all competitions – though many of those outings could be as a substitute.
He would be playing alongside the likes of Kane, Gareth Bale and Son Heung-min, fighting at the top end of the Premier League. Chances of trophies, under Mourinho at one of the best stadiums in the world – joining Spurs is understandable.
But for Ings’ career, he must avoid the temptation.
