Kevin Kilbane not keen for his former club Everton to sign Mario Mandzukic

Former Everton man and BBC pundit Kevin Kilbane has told his old club that Diego Costa would be a better option than Mario Mandzukic,

The Liverpool Echo recently that Marco Silva is a fan of the Croatian, who joined Juventus back in 2015 in a () £13.6 million deal from Atletico Madrid.

But Kilbane : “I’d much prefer to see Costa. Mandzukic is not as mobile. He’s not as aggressive. At 33, you would say ‘is his age profile right?’ He’s not going to give you six or seven years.

“If you look at him at Juve, he played a lot on the left-hand side. I don’t recall him playing over the last five years as an out-and-out number nine. I’d prefer Costa.”

As much as the prospect of getting a big-name striker like Mandzukic who has won major trophies and played in the World Cup final may appeal, Kilbane’s reservations over his mobility are exactly right.

He is too old and too static to lead the line for the dynamic Everton side Marco Silva has put together and his best years are behind him.

That said, Diego Costa does not look a realistic target either, which means that getting a big-name experienced striker may not be the route to go down – sticking with the younger, more promising player approach that has served Everton well should be the one.
